Welcome to the first issue of our electronic Controls Connection newsletter! We will continue to publish our "paper" version, but our hope is that this new format will bring you timely and relevant information concerning the controls marketplace.
The controls market is in a mode of continuous change. Suppliers are consolidating products and sales channels:
-
Johnson Controls acquires York International
-
Honeywell purchases Novar and Tridium, a developer of the Niagara Framework
-
Johnson, Siemens, Invensys and others offer products built on Niagara Framework
Other examples of consolidation can be found on yorkland.net.
In the Building Automation market, protocols such as Bacnet, Lon, Modbus and N2 continue to compete while, at the same time, promising seamless "integration". But what does "integration" mean? Many companies use the word very loosely, and definitions vary widely. Should you really care about these communication protocols? Isn't it more important to have a solution?
The control devices themselves, are
becoming mini-www servers, and wireless technologies are gaining a foothold. The Proliphix thermostat and the Johnson Fx field devices are just two examples of this trend. Although these trends are exciting, very few firms in the controls business know how to deliver, implement and optimize control solutions.
Confused? Don't despair. The controls
environment does not need to become "buyer beware". Yorkland Controls, a leader in controls and automation distribution, can provide you with the expertise you need to get your jobs specified and done right the first time. Our team of factory trained experts understands the complex nature of today's commercial control system and is moving simultaneously with the technology of the future. Yorkland can help you deliver a well thought out solution to your control issues - regardless of brand. |
